KEM is the first Korean company to develop an industrial belt-type oil skimmer.
KEM announced on the 10th that it has developed an industrial belt-type oil skimmer. The oil skimmer is a device used to minimize friction and heat when using machine tools to increase the efficiency of cutting oil reuse. When water-soluble cutting oil is used, the machining precision and the life of the cutting oil are reduced due to the oil in the raw material. This is because the oil deteriorates and causes environmental pollution such as odor. The oil layer formed on top must be removed before the cutting oil can be reused.
KEM occupies about 80% of the market share in the belt-type oil skimmer market for machine tools. The industrial oil skimmer is a device that removes impurities in cutting oil generated in factories rather than individual machines. Since the entire plant is handled, the removal capacity must be large. So far, belt-type products have not been localized, so foreign products or pumping-type products with high power consumption and high cost have to be used.
An official from KEM explained, “The oil skimmer can recycle cutting oil more cleanly than using blotting paper.” “Because the belt type is semi-permanent, it does not incur additional costs and is cheaper than other methods.”

Since its establishment in 1988, KEM has been promoting the localization of machine tool parts.
In addition to the oil skimmer this year, new interface covers, 'KICS-L' and 'KICS-UA' were released. The interface cover is a part that connects machine tools with communication and power without having to open the machine tool cover. The new product has been miniaturized to meet the needs of customers who want communication through LAN and USB. Lightning Protection Device (SPD), which protects machine tools from instantaneous high voltage, has also been successfully localized and recently received S-mark and CE certification.
A KEM official said, "We will continue to promote the localization of parts related to factory automation and machine tools, which have been dependent on imports, by supplementing and improving new technologies to suit domestic conditions and circumstances."
